Covid-19 pandemic has taught the world a lot of new things. People have been compelled to think about new ways of surviving in this crisis. Many have experienced different working situations due to pandemic. Human resources head, Kathleen Hogan, rightly said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live and work in new ways.”
A big announcement has been made by Microsoft recently. The company has permitted working remotely to most of the employees. Returning to the office is optional for the employees. After the office reopens, they can work from home permanently if they want to, with the manager’s permission.
As per the reports, Microsoft has about 163,000 full-time employees. Ninety-six thousand of these employees are in the US. There are large masses of the US whose lives are highly dependent on this giant. The citizens are highly supported by Microsoft’s supportive decisions in this situation of a health crisis. The decision made by Microsoft clearly shows that the company cares for the employees’ preferences. They are offering possible flexibility to the people so that they can maintain and balance their lifestyle.
Microsoft also observed that there are specific roles that are better suited for work for home, and similarly, there are also particular roles that are not fitted for the same. Some employees prefer working in an office, and they can be more productive if they do so. This is the reason the company has decided to keep the options open.
The Covid-19 pandemic has immensely changed the ways a company function. A large number of people are compelled to work from home all across the globe. Facebook has also decided to let half of the staff work remotely for about 5 to 10 years. The companies have realized that it is better to let the employees work from home for specific roles. It can prove beneficial to companies. It is time to welcome the new norm, “Work from Home.”
